Our Home Ground: North Cowichan
Valley Wise Exteriors was built in North Cowichan. We operate from the Berkey’s Corner and Drinkwater area, only a few minutes from Duncan, and this remains the heart of our service territory.
North Cowichan is unusual because it isn’t one kind of community. Within the same municipality you can move from newer subdivisions to farmland, wooded hillsides, waterfront neighbourhoods and established small towns in a surprisingly short drive.
Berkey’s Corner & Central North Cowichan
Berkey’s Corner has changed quickly. New homes and developments continue to fill in an area that still sits right beside farmland, older properties and some very rural roads.
It is also where Valley Wise calls home, so when we say we are a local North Cowichan company, we mean it literally.
Quamichan, Lakes Road & Somenos
The Lakes Road and Quamichan area is one we regularly travel through and service. Quamichan Lake, Quamichan Creek, Somenos Lake and the surrounding wetlands make water and drainage difficult to ignore here.
It is exactly the kind of area where our runoff-conscious approach matters. Exterior cleaning does not happen in isolation — whatever leaves a roof, driveway or siding has to end up somewhere.
Maple Bay & Genoa Bay
Maple Bay is one of the most recognizable parts of North Cowichan: wooded hillsides, steep properties and views over Quamichan Lake and the surrounding coastline.
Continue toward Genoa Bay and things become even more closely tied to the water. Alongside traditional homes, both communities are also known for waterfront living and houseboats.
For properties beside — or literally on — the water, cleaning methods deserve extra thought. Valley Wise can use waterway-conscious options and choose processes intended to reduce unnecessary chemical and contaminated runoff around sensitive environments.
The heavy tree cover also means moss, roof debris and gutters tend to stay busy.
Bell McKinnon, Herd Road & Somenos
This part of North Cowichan is changing quickly. New development around Bell McKinnon sits only minutes from farmland, established rural homes and the Somenos area.
That mixture of new construction and long-established properties makes it a good example of why exterior care should be property-specific rather than one-size-fits-all.
Crofton & Mount Sicker
Crofton has the kind of small-community character that can be easy to miss if you only drive past the turnoff. Established homes, wooded properties and the communities around Mount Sicker give this part of North Cowichan a much more rural feel.
It is an area we are proud to include in our normal Cowichan service territory.
Chemainus & Saltair
Chemainus manages to feel like a genuine small town even as the communities around it continue to grow. The theatre, hanging baskets, older downtown streets and waterfront give it a character that is unmistakably its own.
Continue north toward Saltair and the properties become more spread out and increasingly coastal.
For both areas, trees, marine exposure and Vancouver Island moisture make regular exterior maintenance worthwhile.
