What should a thoughtful roof-moss assessment include?
A good assessment is a short investigation into the roof, the growth and the property—not just a square-footage calculation.
Begin with the material
Identify the roof type if possible and observe the visible condition: shingle edges, granule appearance, debris accumulation, flashing areas and roof pitch. Not every condition can be diagnosed from the ground.
If the roof appears to be failing, a licensed or otherwise qualified roofing professional may be the appropriate next call.
Look around the roof
Notice shade, overhanging trees, gutter condition, downspout outlets, plants, paths and possible drainage routes. Ask when the homeowner first noticed the growth.
A roof is part of a property system; it does not exist in isolation.
Define the proposed work and its limits
A clear quote should distinguish inspection observations from assumptions, state the proposed method and explain where results may be gradual or incomplete. It should also explain whether any retreatment or maintenance promise exists in writing.
If you're uncertain which service to request, Valley Wise can start from photographs and a property assessment.
