Joseph’s field notes · Practical advice
The work ends here. Where does the water go?
A clean surface is only part of the job. The route away from it deserves attention too.

Ask before the work starts
What are we applying? How much are we using? Where will the water go? Those are reasonable questions to ask the person working on your property. They apply to us too.
If you live near the water, looking after that setting comes with the address. But the question matters away from the shoreline as well. Gardens, drains and the properties around us deserve attention.
A product name isn’t the whole answer
Choosing a different treatment doesn’t excuse us from understanding where it goes. We still have to look at the property and plan the work around the surroundings.
I’m interested in what another pass would achieve, how much water or treatment it would take and whether that benefit justifies doing it. That is the question behind ‘at what cost?’
Make the responsibility visible
Ask us to explain the proposed work and the runoff considerations. We should be able to talk about the surface and what is around it in the same conversation.
You hired us to deal with a problem on your property. Moving it somewhere you can’t see would be a poor definition of finishing the job.
